As you all know, SOLE 2 SOLE isn’t just about shoes and bags. We like to support causes that mean something to us and it’s our way of doing our little bit to make this world a better place.
So when www.sassysingapore.com invited us to take part in their charity event to raise funds for the organization SisuGirls, we said “YES”!
Sisu is a Finnish word for “having guts” or “having grit” when translated into English. SisuGirls is an organization based in Singapore that inspires and encourages girls to embrace determination, resilience and bravery through their adventure based programmes, which involve climbing, running and skating.
Founded in 2014 by Chloe Chick, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Peaks Foundation, a US-registered charitable organization, SisuGirls aims to give back to underprivileged girls through the funding of their programmes here. Under the One4One Fund, SisuGirls aims to offer an 8 week scholarship to disadvantage girls to participate in their adventure based activities.
How does this work in Singapore?
The fee paying girls on programs in Singapore are required to contribute to SisuGirl’s One4One Fund by creating micro-enterprises as a team. During their 8-week program they will design and deliver a revenue generating activity, such as a cake stall, art raffle, or car wash to raise funds for the One4One Fund. Even if only a small amount is raised through this activity, every cent counts, and it also provides the girls with entrepreneurial skills and an understanding of community involvement. These funds are then allocated to the fund, to enable a girl who does not have the financial means to participate.
We think it’s wonderful that the girls are taught about community involvement, learn how to be brave and resilient through the physical activities as well as pick up entrepreneurial skills.
So why not support a good cause and come down to Lime House this Saturday, 22 November 2014 to shop with us as 20% of our proceeds will go to SisuGirls!
